Donald John Huffman

Donald John Huffman, 90, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. He was born on October 28, 1935, in Atchison, Kansas, to John and Maude Huffman. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who lived a full life marked by hard work, adventure, and love for his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorene M. Huffman; his daughter, Cindy Huffman; his sister, Mary Huck; daughter in-law Brenda Hulse-Huffman and his granddaughter Alicia Clark’s husband, Chuckie Clark. Don is survived by his son, Chris Huffman; his daughter, Julie VanDierendonk and her husband Don; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren include Alicia Clark; Lacy Overton and her husband Trenton; Brian VanDierendonk and his wife Lisa, and Ben VanDierendonk. His great-grandchildren include Jayleigh Overton, Lylah Overton, Olivia VanDierendonk, Austin VanDierendonk and Trenton Overton Jr. “TJ.” He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sheila Byler and her husband David, along with many extended family members and dear friends. Don spent much of his career working as an electrician and welder at Procter & Gamble. After retiring, he found great joy in working at Kohl’s for 19 years, where he made many friendships and truly loved his time there. Don had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and adventure. He loved camping and traveling and proudly hiked the Grand Canyon seven times. A passionate sports fan, he rarely missed watching Kansas Jayhawks basketball or cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed relaxing with classic western television shows and movies. Don was a man who liked to stay busy. He took pride in helping maintain the flower beds at his church and was happiest when surrounded by family. Above all, he deeply loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. A visitation will be held at Maple Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. The family will hold a private burial at a later date. Don will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, love of adventure, and the deep love he had for his family. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Grove Christian Church in Don’s honor.
